Freelance web developers in Gurugram broadly fall within India's national rates, which Xflow's 2026 rate card puts at about ₹1,500 to ₹4,000+ an hour for mid-level to senior work. Most quote a fixed fee instead: roughly ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 for a basic WordPress site (Digital Web Zones) and ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh for a small WooCommerce store (Codevibe). Gurugram prices broadly follow India's national range, so a local developer shouldn't cost you a premium. Before you pay any advance, ask for a written scope, a staging site and real page-speed numbers from past work. Those checks filter out most bad hires.
I'm Mohit Goyal, a senior web developer based in Gurugram. In 4+ years I've shipped 100+ websites, mostly on WordPress, WooCommerce and Next.js, for businesses in India, the UK and the US. I wrote this for anyone in Gurugram holding a few quotes and no clear way to compare them. A founder in Cyber City, a manufacturer in Udyog Vihar, a shop on Sohna Road or Golf Course Road: the questions you need to ask are the same. This guide covers any kind of site. If you already know you want WordPress, my guide to hiring a WordPress developer in Gurugram goes deeper on builders, plugins and security.
How much does a freelance web developer in Gurugram charge?
About ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 an hour at intermediate level and ₹3,000 to ₹4,000+ an hour when experienced. That's the national rate for India. Xflow's 2026 rate card puts beginners at ₹800 to ₹1,500 an hour, intermediate developers at ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 and experienced specialists at ₹3,000 to ₹4,000+ (Xflow). Upwork publishes its own rate guide for Indian web developers if you want a second benchmark. An Indian agency's pricing guide says Gurgaon and Delhi NCR prices broadly follow the national tiers. Being local isn't a reason to pay more.
In practice, most freelance projects here are quoted as a fixed fee. Use these market bands to sanity-check what you've been sent:
| Site type | Typical market range (INR) | What moves the price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic WordPress business site (5 to 10 pages) | ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 | Template or custom design, who writes the content | Digital Web Zones |
| Professional small business site | ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Custom design, SEO structure, CRM and WhatsApp integrations | Digital Web Zones |
| Basic WooCommerce or Shopify store | ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 | Product count, payment gateway, shipping rules | Codevibe |

The build isn't the only cost. Domain and hosting for a small WordPress site often run ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 a year, and WordPress maintenance plans are commonly quoted at ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 a month (Digital Web Zones). For a WooCommerce or Shopify store, Codevibe suggests setting aside 15 to 20% of the build cost each year for upkeep. And if your developer is GST-registered, add 18% GST on top. Service providers in India have to register once turnover passes ₹20 lakh, or ₹10 lakh in special category states.
I've written a longer breakdown in my guide to WordPress website cost in India.
Why do two quotes for the same site differ by lakhs?
Because they rarely describe the same site. A ₹25,000 quote and a ₹2 lakh quote can both say "business website" and still be pricing very different jobs. Here's what moves the number most:
- Template or custom design. Dropping your logo onto a ready-made theme is quick. Building a Figma design pixel for pixel, with templates your team can actually edit, takes a lot longer.
- Integrations. Payment gateways, a CRM, WhatsApp, Google Sheets lead capture and GST invoices each need setting up and testing.
- Product data. Twenty products is one build. Two thousand products with variants and filters is another.
- Speed and SEO work. Image handling, caching, schema and redirects from your old URLs.
- Support after launch. Is there a support period, or does the quote end on launch day?
The fix is simple: get every developer to price the same written brief, line by line. If you don't have one, the free Project Scope Generator turns a two-line idea into a page list and ranked features you can send to all of them.
How do you check a Gurugram web developer's past work?
Open their live sites and test them yourself. Don't trust a portfolio of screenshots, mine included. Here are three live sites I built as a freelancer in Gurugram: Nortek LED, Orilite and IPL Biologicals.
- Nortek LED: a WooCommerce store built pixel-perfect from Figma on a custom Oxygen Builder theme, with advanced product filters, custom product pages and an optimised checkout. Post-launch analytics reported a 30% increase in average session duration, a 20% uplift in conversion rate and 35% faster load times.
- Orilite: a Figma-to-WordPress site for a BIS-certified AAC block and mortar brand, built with custom PHP templates on Oxygen Builder and ACF. The client reported 25% faster load times, 15% more engagement on product pages and 40% less time spent on content updates.
- IPL Biologicals: a WooCommerce store and corporate site on a custom Oxygen theme, with custom product templates, a careers section and on-page SEO. I built it between September and December 2023. Since 2025 I've run a monthly maintenance retainer for them, covering new pages like the Grow Organic sub-brand plus catalogue and price updates.
I'd point to that IPL Biologicals retainer as much as the builds themselves. Ask any developer you're talking to which clients still work with them a year after launch. There's more on my case studies and projects pages.
What should you ask a web developer before hiring? (10 questions)
These ten cover proof of work, speed, ownership, hosting, scope, payments, SEO and support, with the local details that matter when you hire in Gurugram. If someone gets vague on any of them, take note. For the general version that applies anywhere in the country, see my guide to hiring a freelance web developer in India.
- Can I see three live sites you built, and which parts did you personally do? Team projects turn up in a lot of portfolios, so ask who did what.
- What do those sites score on Core Web Vitals? Google's "good" thresholds are LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 milliseconds and CLS under 0.1 (web.dev). Run their sites through PageSpeed Insights yourself.
- Can we meet in Gurugram for kickoff and sign-off, and will you build on a staging site I can review? A local developer should be happy to sit down with you at the start and at launch. Everything in between can happen on calls and a staging link.
- Whose name will the domain, hosting and plugin licences be in? The answer should be yours.
- Where will the site be hosted? If most of your customers are in India, ask whether the server is in an Indian data centre or sits behind a CDN, and what the hosting renewal will cost.
- What's in scope, page by page, and how many rounds of revisions are included?
- How are payments split, what do I get at each milestone, and will you raise a GST invoice? If your business is GST-registered, a proper tax invoice lets you claim input tax credit. Cash or UPI with no invoice doesn't.
- Which theme, builder, plugins and payment gateway will you use? Licences should be genuine: nulled (pirated) WordPress themes are a common way malware gets onto a site. For Indian customers, ask about Razorpay or another Indian gateway, and make sure the merchant account is opened in your business's name.
- If you're replacing my current site, how will you protect my rankings? You want to hear about a redirect map and a Google Search Console check. "Google will figure it out" isn't a plan.
- What support do I get after launch, and how quickly do you reply? If someone takes four days to reply while they're trying to win your project, they won't speed up once you've paid.
What are the red flags when hiring a web developer?
The big ones: a large advance with no written scope, no staging site, no page-speed numbers, and a domain or hosting account in the developer's name. Each of these puts your money or your website at risk.
An advance with no paperwork
An advance is normal. Paying 50% upfront on the strength of a WhatsApp message, with no written scope, milestones or handover terms, is how projects stall after the money is gone.
- No staging site. If the developer works on your live site, customers see broken pages and there's no safe way to roll back.
- No page-speed numbers. "Your site will be fast" isn't a measurement. Ask for PageSpeed Insights results from past work and a target for your site. It matters for sales too: a Google-commissioned Deloitte study found that loading 0.1 seconds faster on mobile lifted retail conversions by 8.4%.
- Domain, hosting or payment account in the developer's name. If they disappear, you lose control of your own site and have to prove ownership to get it back. If it's already happened, here's how to take back your WordPress site.
- No proper invoice. A GST-registered developer should give your business a tax invoice you can claim input tax credit on. One who wants cash with no invoice at all leaves you no paper trail if things go wrong.
- "Local" but never available to meet. If a developer says they're in Gurugram but won't meet once, even for kickoff, ask where the work is actually being done.
- Guaranteed rankings. Nobody can promise you a first-page position on Google. Anyone who does is guessing or lying.
- Experience claims that don't match. If their website, LinkedIn and proposal give different years or project counts, ask why.
- One price, no scope. A single number with no page list turns every change request into an argument.
Should you hire a freelancer or an agency in Gurugram?
For most business sites and stores, a freelancer gives you the same skill for less money and direct contact with the person building your site, while agencies suit large programmes that need several teams at once. I've compared cost, risk and fit in detail in freelance web developer vs agency in Gurgaon.
I work as a senior freelancer with named partners. I build the site myself, and when a project needs design, mobile apps or Shopify, I bring in partners I trust and stay your single point of contact. My services run from WordPress builds on Bricks, Elementor and Oxygen to WooCommerce stores and Next.js websites.
What does a well-run website project look like?
Six stages: a discovery call, a signed written scope, design sign-off, a staging build, speed and SEO checks, then launch with everything handed over in your name. Each payment should line up with one of them.
- 1
Discovery call
A short call about goals, pages, integrations and budget. You come away knowing whether the brief is clear enough to quote.
- 2
Written scope
Pages, features, milestones and payment schedule in one document that both sides sign.
- 3
Design sign-off
You approve the Figma designs before building starts, while changes are still cheap.
- 4
Staging build
The site is built on a private staging URL that you review on your phone and laptop.
- 5
Speed and SEO checks
Core Web Vitals, schema, redirects and security headers are tested before launch.
- 6
Launch and handover
The site goes live, Search Console is checked, logins are handed over in your name and support terms are agreed.
You don't have to take a developer's word on quality. Paste a PageSpeed Insights report into my free Page Speed Fix Planner to see what's failing, and run the staging or live URL through the Security Headers Checker. If your current site is already slow or slipping in rankings, I also fix technical SEO and Core Web Vitals.
Why hire a Gurugram-based senior developer?
Kickoffs are easier and you share working hours, but the real benefit is accountability. One person builds the site, answers for it and is still around next year.
Gurugram's business mix also shapes the brief. Match the developer to the kind of site you actually need:
| Business type | What the site usually needs | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| SaaS and tech startups (Cyber City, Golf Course Road) | A fast marketing site, landing pages, HubSpot forms, GA4 and Tag Manager tracking | Next.js websites, landing pages |
| Manufacturers and B2B suppliers (Udyog Vihar, IMT Manesar) | Product catalogue, spec sheets, enquiry forms, sometimes a WooCommerce store | WordPress websites, WooCommerce stores |
| Real estate and professional services | Lead capture with verification, enquiries routed to a sheet or CRM | Custom plugins and tools |
If your customers search in Hindi as well as English, decide early whether you need a bilingual site, because it changes the page count and the quote.
Beyond the stores above, I've built OTP phone verification into forms for PropAlert and lead capture that saves every enquiry to a Google Sheet for Taxocity. I also maintain HTTP Security Header, a WordPress.org plugin with 1,000+ active installs, so supporting code long after release is normal for me.
How do you get a quote?
Send me a two-line brief on WhatsApp or book a discovery call. Tell me what kind of site it is, the features you can't do without and when you want to launch. I'll reply with any questions and a clear next step.
