Why title tags and meta descriptions matter
The title tag is the blue headline in Google's results and one of the strongest on-page ranking signals. The meta description is the text underneath it. It doesn't affect rankings directly, but it decides whether people click.
A clear title with the keyword near the start, and a description that promises a specific outcome, can win clicks from results ranked above you.
How long should they be?
Google cuts titles at about 600 pixels, which is roughly 50 to 60 characters, and descriptions at about 155 to 160 characters on desktop. Anything longer ends in an ellipsis.
Google sometimes rewrites descriptions to match the search. A description that closely matches what the page is about is the one most likely to be kept.
Writing tips that work
Put the keyword first, add the brand at the end, and give the searcher a reason to choose you: a benefit, a number or a guarantee that is true. Avoid stuffing the same keyword twice, and write a unique title for every page.
