How much does a WordPress website cost in India in 2026?

A WordPress website in India can cost very different amounts because quotes describe different websites. The price moves with six things: where the design comes from, how many templates and content types the site needs, any custom features, the integrations it connects to, who provides the content, and what support you get after launch. I do not publish fixed prices, because a scope has to come first for any quote to mean something. I am a freelance developer in Gurugram, and the examples below are from WordPress sites I built for Indian clients under my Inspired Monks brand.

What does a WordPress website cost in India?

These are typical market ranges Indian freelancers and small agencies publish. My own quote comes from a written scope, and the Project Scope Generator gives you one to compare quotes against.

Type of siteTypical range in IndiaSources
Basic brochure site on a theme or builder₹15,000–₹50,000Akoode, Redpulse Software
Custom WordPress site, custom design, 10 to 20 pages₹80,000–₹1,50,000Hostinger India, Zethic
WooCommerce store from a small agency, up to about 50 products₹80,000–₹1,50,000Zethic, Akoode
WooCommerce store from a freelancer₹25,000–₹1,00,000Hostinger India

The table shows ranges. The cost drivers below explain where in the range a project lands.

Why do WordPress quotes in India vary so much?

Because "a WordPress website" can mean almost anything. One developer installs a ready theme, swaps the text and images and hands it over. Another builds custom templates from your Figma file, connects your CRM and trains your team. Both are WordPress websites, and both quotes are honest for what they assume.

The trouble starts when you compare them as if they were the same job. They rarely are. The fix is not to find the "right" price but to make every developer quote against the same scope.

What actually changes the quote?

Cost driverQuestion to askExample from my work
Design sourceIs there a finished design, or does the developer design too?Orilite was built from the client's Figma design, Taxocity from a Figma draft
Templates and content typesHow many templates, and is content structured?IIID Inscape used custom post types for articles and portfolios

IntegrationsWhich tools must the site talk to?Taxocity writes every lead to a Google Sheet

ContentWho writes copy and supplies images?Product and project imagery dominated the page weight on Orilite

Does building from a custom design cost more?

Usually, because every template is built to match the design rather than adapted from a theme. Orilite, an AAC block and mortar brand, came with a finished Figma design. I turned it into bespoke PHP templates on Oxygen Builder, with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for product details, project showcases, events and marketing content. The site also has a materials calculator, careers and events sections, and building-solution pages.

That is more work than installing a theme. It is also why the team can add a product or a project by filling in fields. After launch the client reported 40 percent less time spent on content updates. A cheaper build that the team cannot update costs more later, in developer time for every change.

How does structured content change the price?

It adds work up front and saves it afterwards. IIID Inscape, the magazine of the Institute of Indian Interior Designers, was a static publication with no easy way to publish articles. Before any build, I ran stakeholder workshops and a content audit. Then I used CPT UI and ACF to create custom post types for articles and member portfolios, so each one is a form editors fill in.

Workshops, content modelling and admin training all take time, and a quote that includes them will be higher than one that does not. The client reported editors publishing new features 50 percent quicker after launch. I explain the approach in how to use ACF and custom post types for a content team.

What do integrations add?

Every integration is work to build, and something to keep working. Taxocity, a tax and compliance firm running paid ads, needed every enquiry in front of its sales team fast. I built the site on Bricks Builder and wrote a PHP hook that writes each form submission to a Google Sheet, which the firm's CRM reads from.

Before that, I evaluated a direct TeleCRM webhook and a move to Forminator forms. The sheet won because the team already worked in Google Sheets. The choice also affects running costs. A custom hook has no monthly fee but needs a developer to maintain it, while no-code tools such as Zapier and Make charge by usage. More detail is in how to send WordPress form entries to Google Sheets.

What about custom features like OTP verification?

Custom features are where quotes differ most, because one developer may plan custom code and another may plan a plugin that only partly fits. PropAlert, a real estate data platform, follows up leads by phone, so an enquiry with a fake number was worth nothing. I wrote custom plugins that connect WPForms to an OTP API, with JavaScript handling the code step in the form, and built Pay Now and Enquire Now flows.

Two things to ask about a feature like this. First, who maintains the custom code. Second, what it costs to run, because SMS providers charge per message. No traffic or conversion metrics were measured on PropAlert, so I can only say what was built, not what it changed. The method is in how to add OTP phone verification to WordPress forms.

Custom code is often billed by the hour. Typical published rates in India are ₹500–₹3,000 an hour for a freelance web developer (Hostinger India, Secuodsoft), and ₹3,000–₹6,000 or more an hour for a senior developer with five or more years of experience (Zethic).

Does the choice of builder change the price?

It changes both the build and the running costs. Bricks, Elementor Pro and Oxygen are paid products, so ask whose name the licence is in and, for yearly licences, who renews it. On an existing site, staying on the current builder is usually cheaper than switching. I compare the three in Bricks vs Elementor vs Oxygen for a business website.

What is usually missing from a cheap quote?

These are the lines that turn into surprise costs later:

  • Premium licences for the builder, forms or caching plugins.
  • Content. Writing copy for many pages is often bigger work than building them.
  • Image optimisation, caching and SSL.
  • Security hardening, especially on a site that collects enquiries.
  • Redirects from old URLs, if you are replacing a site.
  • Training and documentation, so your team can publish without a developer.
  • Backups and maintenance after launch.
  • Ownership. Hosting, domain and admin accounts should be in your name.

A quote that leaves these out is not wrong. It is a smaller job, and you should know that before you compare it.

Maintenance is the line most often left out. A WordPress maintenance retainer for a business site typically costs ₹5,000–₹10,000 a month, and freelancers charge ₹3,000–₹8,000 a month (Upgrowth, Pegasus Digital).

How do you compare WordPress quotes against one scope?

Write the scope first, then ask for quotes. A scope lists the pages and templates, the features ranked by priority, every integration, who supplies content, and what is out of scope. If you do not have one, the free Project Scope Generator turns a two-line idea into a feature list, pages and build phases you can edit and send. My post on how to write a project scope or PRD covers what to include.

Then compare quotes in a table like this:

LineQuote AQuote BQuote C
Templates built
Custom features
Integrations
Licences included
Content and images
Training and documentation
Support after launch

How do you work with me?

I build WordPress sites from your design on Bricks, Elementor, Oxygen or a custom theme, through my WordPress websites on Bricks, Elementor and Oxygen service. The rest is on my services page. Send me your scope, or book a call with two lines about the project, and I will reply with how I would build it.

Frequently asked

What is the cost of WordPress website development in India?+

Typical market ranges Indian freelancers and small agencies publish are ₹15,000–₹50,000 for a basic brochure site on a theme or builder, and ₹80,000–₹1,50,000 for a custom-designed site of 10 to 20 pages. Where a project lands depends on the scope, so my own quote comes from a written scope, not a price list.

Why is one WordPress quote so much cheaper than another?+

Usually because it assumes less. It may use a ready theme, skip integrations, leave content to you, or exclude training and maintenance. Ask each developer to quote against the same written scope.

Is a custom design more expensive than a theme?+

Usually, because each template is built to match the design. The payoff is a site that fits your content. On Orilite, custom ACF templates let the team add products and projects by filling in fields.

Do integrations add much to the cost?+

Each one adds work and something to maintain. Taxocity's leads go to a Google Sheet through a small PHP hook, which has no monthly fee but needs a developer to maintain it.

Should maintenance be part of the quote?+

It should at least be discussed. Sites need updates, backups and changes after launch. Ask whether support is included, for how long, and how changes are priced.
