How much does a WooCommerce website cost in India?

A WooCommerce website in India usually costs ₹50,000 to ₹3,00,000 to build in 2026, according to Indian agency pricing guides. Simple template stores start around ₹30,000. Stores that need ERP sync, custom checkout logic or complex shipping go past ₹3 lakh (Web Developer's Hub, Akoode). On top of the build, budget for hosting (about ₹200 to ₹5,000 a month), plugin licences, a payment gateway fee of about 2% on every order and a maintenance retainer of roughly ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 a month.

I've built WooCommerce stores for Indian brands such as IPL Biologicals and Nortek LED, and I still look after IPL Biologicals on a monthly retainer. Below I break the cost down by what actually moves a quote. The figures are published market ranges, not my own rates.

How much does a WooCommerce website cost in India in 2026?

A basic WooCommerce store in India costs about ₹30,000–₹60,000, a professional store ₹50,000–₹1,50,000 and a custom store ₹1,00,000–₹3,00,000 or more. Indian agency guides broadly agree on this shape, even if their brackets don't line up exactly. Here's how one WooCommerce-specific guide splits it:

Store typeTypical build costWhat you usually get
Basic store₹30,000–₹60,000Theme, small catalogue, cart, one payment gateway, basic shipping
Professional store₹50,000–₹1,50,000Customised design, filters, variations, coupons, shipping rules

What drives the cost of a WooCommerce store?

The price is driven mostly by catalogue size, design approach, product filters, checkout changes, GST invoicing, shipping rules and integrations. That's why two quotes for "an online store" can be ten times apart: they're quoting different stores. These are the things I look at first when I scope one:

Cost driverCheaper endExpensive end
Catalogue sizeUnder 50 simple products, entered by youThousands of SKUs with variations, bulk import and attribute clean-up
DesignPremium theme with your coloursCustom templates built from a Figma design
Product filtersDefault category pagesFilters by attribute, spec or use case

GST invoicingFree PDF invoice pluginGST-compliant invoices with HSN codes, place of supply, e-invoice IRN

IntegrationsNoneERP, CRM, inventory or accounting sync

Catalogue size

Uploading 20 products is a different job from uploading 2,000. Big catalogues need clean product data, attributes, variations and bulk imports, and someone has to own that work. Web Developer's Hub recommends writing product entry into the scope explicitly. I agree. It's the line item most often left vague, and it's where arguments start later.

Custom templates versus a theme

A theme is cheaper to start with. Custom templates cost more, but they load less code and match your brand exactly. For IPL Biologicals I built the store and corporate site on a custom Oxygen Builder theme, with custom product templates, a careers section with job listings and on-page SEO. For Nortek LED I built the store pixel-perfect from the client's Figma file, also on a custom Oxygen theme.

Filters and checkout work

Filters matter when buyers shop by specification, as they do with lighting. On Nortek LED the brief included advanced product filters, custom product pages and an optimised checkout. That kind of work adds days, not hours, because a filter only works once the product data behind it is structured properly.

GST invoicing

The default WooCommerce invoice doesn't show what an Indian GST invoice needs. Expect to set up CGST, SGST or IGST by customer location, HSN codes per product and your GSTIN on every invoice. Paid GST plugins are cheap next to the build: one guide lists options from about ₹1,990 to ₹2,499 a year.

Check whether you need e-invoicing

Businesses above the ₹5 crore turnover threshold must generate e-invoices for B2B sales, so a basic PDF invoice plugin won't be enough. Confirm your obligations with your CA before you choose a plugin.

The threshold above comes from the Innovative Codetech setup guide. Check the current rules on the official GST e-invoice portal, and get your CA to confirm them for your business.

Razorpay or Stripe: which payment gateway should an Indian store use?

If you sell mostly inside India, Razorpay (or another Indian gateway such as PayU or Cashfree) is usually the better fit. It supports UPI and charges 2% plus GST per transaction. Stripe India suits stores selling mainly to overseas card holders. Setting up the gateway plugin barely registers in the build cost. The number that matters is the fee you pay on every order for as long as the store runs.

Gateway detailRazorpayStripe India
Domestic fee2% + GST per transaction2% on Indian Mastercard and Visa
International cardsListed on Razorpay's pricing page3%, plus 2% if currency conversion is needed
Payment methodsCards, UPI, wallets, net bankingCards and digital wallets; check the page for current methods
Sign-upSelf-serveRequest an invite for the standard plan
Best fitMost domestic D2C and B2B storesStores selling mainly to overseas card holders

For domestic stores, UPI usually settles it. I've wired Stripe payments into WooCommerce and booking flows on UK projects, and for Wow Vastra I added a currency switcher and worldwide checkout. If you plan to sell overseas, say so at the quote stage, because multi-currency on WooCommerce is extra work.

How much does WooCommerce hosting and upkeep cost each month?

Expect roughly ₹200 to ₹5,000 a month for hosting, about ₹800 a year for a domain and ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 a month for agency maintenance. WooCommerce itself is free. Running a store isn't. These are typical market figures:

Running costTypical rangeSource
DomainAbout ₹800 a yearInnovative Codetech
Shared hosting₹200–₹500 a monthKalex
Managed WordPress hosting₹1,500–₹5,000 a monthKalex
Cloud or dedicated hosting for busy stores₹8,000–₹25,000+ a monthKalex
Hosting plus plugins combinedAbout ₹1,000–₹5,000 a monthCodevibe
Agency maintenance₹3,000–₹15,000 a monthKalex
Maintenance as a share of build15–20% of build cost a yearCodevibe

Shared hosting is fine for a small catalogue with modest traffic. Once orders pick up, slow hosting stops being a speed-score issue and starts costing you checkouts. If your store already feels sluggish, find out what's actually slowing it down before you pay for a bigger server.

What does a WooCommerce maintenance retainer cover?

A retainer pays a developer to keep the store updated, backed up and working, and to handle small changes like new pages or price updates without a fresh quote each time. IPL Biologicals is a good example. I built their store between September and December 2023 and maintained it until April 2024. Since 2025 I've run a monthly retainer for them that covers new pages such as the Grow Organic sub-brand, catalogue and price updates, and day-to-day store support.

The plugin updates aren't the valuable bit. What you're paying for is a developer who already knows the codebase when a price list changes or a new range has to go live this week. I cover the full list in what a WordPress maintenance retainer covers.

How long does it take to build a WooCommerce website?

A basic templated store takes about 2–4 weeks, a mid-range store 5–8 weeks and a custom store roughly 8–16 weeks. Kalex estimates 8–16 weeks for a WooCommerce store, while Codevibe puts a basic templated store at 2–4 weeks and a feature-rich mid-range store at 5–8 weeks. My own projects fit that pattern. The main IPL Biologicals build ran from September to December 2023, and Nortek LED ran from April to October 2023. On most store builds, product data and content approvals set the pace more than the code does.

Is a custom WooCommerce build worth paying more for?

It's worth it when the store is your main sales channel and buyers rely on filters, a smooth checkout and fast pages. If the store is a side channel, a good theme is often enough. On Nortek LED, after the custom build with filters and the reworked checkout, the client reported a 20% uplift in conversion rate, 35% faster load times and 30% longer average sessions. That's one client's result, not a promise, but it shows where the extra budget goes.

Going too cheap costs you too. Kalex warns that trying to build a complex WooCommerce store for around ₹20,000 tends to leave you with a slow, insecure site.

What should you ask a WooCommerce developer before you sign?

Pin down six things before you sign: how many products are included, which gateway is set up, what the GST invoice looks like, what speed target they build to, who owns the accounts and what support costs after launch.

  1. 1

    Count the products

Ask how many products are included in the quote, who enters them and whether variations and bulk import are covered.

  2. 2

    Name the gateway

Confirm which gateway is set up, whether UPI and COD are included and whose account the money settles into.

  3. 3

    Check GST invoices

Ask to see a sample invoice with GSTIN, HSN codes and the CGST, SGST or IGST split.

  4. 4

    Agree on speed

Ask what load time or Core Web Vitals target they build to and how they test it on mobile.

  5. 5

    Own your accounts

Make sure the domain, hosting, plugin licences and gateway are in your name, not the developer's.

  6. 6

    Plan for after launch

Get support terms in writing: what's included, response times and the monthly cost if you want a retainer.

My WooCommerce store build checklist goes deeper on each point. No brief yet? My free Project Scope Generator turns a two-line idea into a feature list and a page list you can send to developers, so every quote you get is pricing the same store.

How do you get an accurate WooCommerce quote?

To quote accurately I need to know roughly what you sell, how many products you have and which payment gateway you want. Have a look at what I build on the WooCommerce stores service page, then book a 20-minute call and we'll scope your store together.

Frequently asked

How much does a basic WooCommerce store cost in India?+

Indian agency guides put a basic WooCommerce store at ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 in 2026. That usually covers a theme, a small catalogue, one payment gateway and simple shipping. Custom design, product filters or GST-compliant invoices push the price up.

Is WooCommerce cheaper than Shopify for an Indian business?+

WooCommerce has no platform subscription, so you pay for hosting, plugins and maintenance instead of a monthly Shopify plan. WooCommerce usually works out cheaper if you want more control and plan to customise.

Should I use Razorpay or Stripe for WooCommerce in India?+

If you sell mostly inside India, an Indian gateway such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree is usually the better fit because it supports UPI. Stripe India makes more sense if most of your buyers pay with international cards.

Do I need a GST invoice plugin for WooCommerce in India?+

Yes, if your business is GST registered. The default WooCommerce invoice doesn't show your GSTIN, HSN codes or the CGST, SGST or IGST split, and businesses above the e-invoicing threshold also need B2B e-invoices.

How much does WooCommerce maintenance cost per month in India?+

Agency maintenance packages for a WooCommerce store in India typically cost ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 a month, or roughly 15 to 20% of the build cost a year. Hosting, the domain and plugin licences are usually extra.

How long does it take to build a WooCommerce website in India?+

A basic templated store takes about 2 to 4 weeks, a mid-range store 5 to 8 weeks and a custom store roughly 8 to 16 weeks. Product data and content approvals often set the pace more than the development work does.
