Challenge

This was an enterprise WordPress build with stricter rules than a typical agency project, delivered as a freelance engagement from October to December 2022. Janssen's team needed a neuroscience microsite that fitted their existing hosting and compliance setup rather than the other way round. That meant WordPress running on Platform.sh, a managed cloud host, with every theme and plugin pinned to a version and installed through Composer, the PHP dependency manager, so the build was reproducible. Content was served statically so the public site had a small attack surface. The designs were supplied. The challenge was delivering them inside those constraints and across the Platform.sh environments the team used for review and release.

Approach

The stack was WordPress, PHP, Composer and Platform.sh. Composer management was a requirement, not a preference, and it is the right one for enterprise WordPress. A lockfile makes every environment identical and makes updates a reviewed change rather than a click in the admin. Platform.sh gave branch-based environments, so a change could be reviewed on its own URL before merging. Serving the site statically removed the live database and admin from the public surface. That is the biggest single security gain available to a content site.

Solution

I set up the Composer-based project structure so WordPress core, the theme and every plugin were declared as dependencies with pinned versions. I built the theme and page templates to the supplied designs and deployed to the Platform.sh environments. I handled QA across devices so the microsite rendered correctly on desktop and mobile before each review. Each change went through the same path: a commit, a build on the environment, a review on its URL, then a merge.

Results

No performance or traffic metrics were measured for this work. The team received a microsite that deployed the same way every time, could be updated through version control and exposed as little as possible to the public internet. The Platform.sh preview environment I worked on is no longer online and the production URL is not public, so there is no live link.
