How applicant tracking systems read your resume
Most companies filter applications with an applicant tracking system (ATS) before a person reads them. The ATS looks for the skills, tools and job titles named in the job description, so a strong candidate can be filtered out for describing the same skill in different words.
Using the job description's own language, wherever it is true for you, is the simplest way to get past the filter.
Rewrite bullets around impact
Recruiters skim. Bullets that start with a strong verb and end with a result stand out: 'Cut checkout load time by 40% by moving to server rendering' beats 'Worked on checkout performance'.
The rewrites leave [brackets] where a number would help. Fill them with real figures only.
Be honest about gaps
The matcher shows what you are missing so you can decide what to do: learn it, point to related experience or address it in your cover letter. Never add skills you do not have; interviews find out quickly.
